Spelling patterns this week: comparative adjectives

Relevant spelling guidelines:

  • For one-syllable words, add –er or –est.
  • When the pattern of the word is CVC* then we double the consonant before –er or –est.
  • For 2 syllable adjectives ending in –y, change the –y to an i
  • We use ‘more’ or ‘most’ for words with 2+ syllables not ending in y. We don’t change the spelling of the word! For example, famous – more famous; interesting – more interesting, carefully – more carefully
